Triathlon Swim Training and Song

Watching some of the you tube videos of Triathlons, I started getting a little bit nervous about the swim. I've been told a few times to try and get practice swims in open water because it has a different feel than the pool. So, I do hope to get a few in this Spring when I go to Lake Balaton for "Let's Talk." How do you handle all the flailing arms and legs in the swim part??? I'm a little nervous.

OK, but this you tube made me laugh!

AND I thought this was kind of silly.

After watching that youtube video, all my friends put up their hand to help me train ;D.

U were asking about the worry about getting hit while you swim.

The only way to learn to swim open water is to swim open water. The best way to swim with groups is to swim with groups.

If you can train with a bunch of people in open water that would be the best. I ain't a touchy touchy person so swimming with contact is tough on me. To overcome the fear, I make sure i stay contact with others during water. This means rubbing their arm or their leg. The more I swim in contact, the more I am use to it and the more relax I am.

As for worry about getting hit or kick. Look for a pair of legs who don't kick that much. That's what I do in race day. I swim draft from person to person. Once I find a pair of legs I can draft off and they dont' kick hard, I just let it reel me in back to T1 :)

The first one is very funny. When I finally make the leap to the water that is definitely how I plan on training for the open water swim :)

Jen, i googled triathlons in eastern europe and your blog came up with a bunch of stuff. I am wondering if you know of any running races or triathlons in eastern europe for the end of May. My brother and i are going to be traveling around and i would like to get in some possible events during my travels.
thanks for the help
